FRANKLIN’S MINT “TEMPORARY”

Franklin’s Mint is an ongoing solo, song-writing project of Philip Franklin. Starting in 2004 with the release of “GOLD”, I have worked with incredible talent over the years.

Beginning in the early 1980’s as drummer with the New York hard core punk band BORSCHT, playing at such local clubs as CBGB’s, A7 and The Rock Hotel, I began writing lyrics and had a deep interest in song writing. With a Fine Arts degree from S.U.N.Y Purchase, I also played in various college bands.

After moving to San Francisco in 1992 to join the Art Rock band CAROLINER RAINBOW I began to tour extensively throughout the USA, Japan and Australia; coming here for the first time with “desk-metal” band FAXED HEAD in 1997, which featured Trey Spruance from MR. BUNGLE and Gregg Turkington aka NEIL HAMBURGER fame.

The following year I joined Trey Spruance, Danny Heifetz, Trevor Dunn, Bar McKinnon (all original members of Mr Bungle) and violinist Eyvind Kang in the first touring line up of the Secret Chiefs 3, playing percussion and drums. We also made our television debut during that tour, on cult Saturday morning music show, RECOVERY.

I continued playing in the Secret Chiefs 3 until 2001 then returned to the US East Coast, to Boston where I began playing with the free folk psyche-improv collective SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN, of which 2 members are featured on this latest recording.

This collection of original songs is my very first release in Australia and also a return to working with Danny Heifetz, who made Sydney his home over 20 years ago. Danny recorded and mixed these songs as well as contributing his amazing musicianship here in Sydney at his PLATFORM 28 Studios. The songs were recorded between December 2020 to February 2021, during the pandemic and the CD was pressed in Victoria.
